What: “Light Fields for Movie Productions”
SAUCE (Smart Assets for re-Use in Creative Environments) is a three-year EU Research and Innovation project between 9 companies and research institutions to create a step-change in allowing creative industry companies to re-use existing digital assets for future productions.
One aspect of the EU funded project SAUCE is to explore the possibilities and challenges of integrating lightfield capturing into movie productions. Within the context of a music festival in Germany, the intention of the "Unfolding" production is to create a trailer targeting a young audience by utilizing new technologies during production. A special lightfield camera has been build by Saarland University during the SAUCE project and is first tested under production conditions within the "Unfolding" shoot. Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg developed the contentual frame and prepared a complete previsualization for the final trailer. Within the presentation, challenges solved from building to shooting with the new lightfield rig, as well as the potential and challenges for the postproduction will be discussed.
